In a dialogue with Indonesian Vice President, Jusuf Kalla and the Balinese Tourism industry today, it was recognized that Bali remains Indonesia’s premier destination and is an icon of Indonesian tourism. Vice President Kalla, said today “Bali is the icon of Indonesia’s tourism industry and is the first point of entry for many tourists coming to Indonesia.” Vice President Kalla, referred to a previous campaign called ‘Bali and Beyond’ which also recognized that Bali is the mantle from which all of Indonesia’s tourism must hang. Vice President Kalla further claimed that “the Balinese tourism industry needs to be protected and promoted.”
The dialogue addressed the need for improvements in infrastructure, security and public transport. Vice President Kalla gave the directive that an increase in the number of immigration officers on arrival needs to be put in place in order to reduce queuing time. Vice President Kalla also pledged USD$5 million for 2007 for the promotion of a Balinese driven Indonesian tourism industry. These funds would cover the first half of 2007 until June, after which he proposed additional funding for the second half of 2007. However, the funds are subject to Federal Parliamentary approval.
The dialogue held at the Westin Hotel and Resort in Nusa Dua, Bali saw the participation of the chairman of the Bali Tourism Authority, Gede Nurjaya and the Chairman of the Bali Tourism Board, Bagus Sudibya. Also attending were the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik; the Minister of State Owned Industries, Pak Sugiharto; the Governor of Bali, Dewa Made Beratha; Minister of Agriculture, Anton Apriantono; Minister of Education, Bambang Sudibyo; Bali’s Chief of Police, Paulus Purwoko; all Balinese District Chiefs; Members of the Balinese Provincial Parliament and members of Federal Parliament.
Supporting the dialogue was the ‘Bali is My Life’ promotional campaign which seems set to be adopted as the new brand of Bali.
