June 2nd, 2007
Newly finished road, which connect ancient Trunyan village and Cemara Landung collapsed into
Lake
Batur. The road collapsed due to heavy rain and instability of the soil. This winding road was built on the slope of
Mount
Abang that has high soil instability. The process of collapsing has been going for three months but the government takes no significant prevention and reparation effort.
This road plays important role for the inhabitant of Trunyan village. Before the road had been built, Trunyan village can only be reached by crossing
Lake
Batur with speedboat or outrigger. The collapsing road puts into halt most of the economic activities of Trunyan’s residence.
Though small portions of the road remain intact, the Trunyan’s residents are afraid to use the remaining road due to the instability of the road soil.
