Twelve foreign teams to take part in Bali Art Festival

Some 12 art teams from foreign countries have confirmed their participation in the Bali Art Festival, which will be held from June 16 to July 14, 2007.

Apart from the foreign art teams, the Bali Art Festival will also be participated in domestic artists from throughout Indonesian regions, an official of the Bali cultural office, said here on Thursday.

The foreign  art troops will include those from Japan, China, India, Korea, the United States, Singapore and Canada.

Last year`s Bali Art Festival was participated in by 15 foreign art teams.

Asian Beach Games in Bali next year

Indonesia has prepared for hosting the Asian Beach Games in Bali next year that would be held from Oct. 18 to 26, the Jakarta Post reported Saturday. The country is betting 300 billion rupiah (some 32.97 million U. S. dollars) budget for the event.

National Sports Council (KONI) chairwoman Rita Subowo said here Friday the budget for the event would come from the central government, Bali administration and the private sector. The money will be used to build the necessary infrastructure and purchase equipment for the event.

New-found Deepsea Water Source in East Bali Sea

A new deepsea water source was found in East Bali Sea (offshore of Karangsem), 350 m from the nearest beach. This deepsea water is a good source of healthy drinking water, with rich mineral contents. The research on this deepsea water had been carried out by the Udayana University, IPB Bogor and a number of Japanese scientists in Marine Tech Kuta.

Conflagration in Kumbasari Traditional Market

A great conflagration destroyed Kumbasari traditional market yesterday morning 5/2/2007. Two hundreds shops were burned in this conflagration due to the slow action of Denpasar fire squad. The fire started to burn the market at 07:15 A.M. and took 11 hours to control the fire. Even at 9 P.M the fire was still inextinguishable completely.

Number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia increasing
May 1st, 2007

The number of foreign tourists who arrived in Indonesia through 15 entry ports in the first quarter of 2007 was recorded at over 1 million or up by 14.21 percent from a corresponding period last year when the figure was 877,000, the country`s chief statistician said.

The number of foreign tourists visiting the country in March 2007 was recorded at 361.800, an increase by 15.34 percent from the corresponding month last year, Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) chairman Rusman Heriawan said here Tuesday.

The 116th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly Is On

The 116th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly opened Sunday evening (4/29/07) in Indonesia’s resort of Bali, and more than 1,300 delegates from 126 countries are attending the six-day meeting.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially opened the meeting by beating gong.

The IPU meeting would discuss issues such as climate change, the MiddleEast situation and the strengthening of democracy.

Bali’s canned fish exports increase 266 percent

Bali’s canned fish exports in the first quarter of this year increased 266.5 percent, the province’s trade and industry office said on Thursday.

In the January-March period 2007, Bali exported 1,864 tons of canned fish worth US$2.6 million or up from 328 tons valued at US$724,696 in the same period in 2006, the office said in a report.

The canned fish export performance was encouraging because the commodity disappeared from Bali’s export commodity list some time ago.
